“A quick ingenious note does not make a short poem. It makes a tiny poem, a funny thing that runs out quickly. A short poem touches on the greatest aspiration of language: that syntax embodies thought as closely as possible. Thus, poetry is what it should be: the space in which language reaches its maximum density. The poem is, then, a standing point for thought to expand. Short poems are perhaps the longest.
